Ulaanbaatar Museums & Monastery Day Tour
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Ulaanbaatar City Highlights
We pick you up from your hotel between 08:00 and 09:00 and head first to Sukhbaatar Square, the main square in the center of Ulaanbaatar, for short visits to the sights around it, including the Government Palace with its great statue of Chinggis Khaan. Next, spend about three hours in the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, whose exhibits show the history and culture of the Mongols from as early as the Stone Age up to modern times. After a traditional Mongolian lunch, continue to Gandan Monastery, the country's largest active monastery with more than 150 resident monks, for a guided hour that includes the 26.5 m statue of Migjid Janraisig, the bodhisattva also known as Avalokitesvara. Then visit the Dinosaur Museum: Mongolia ranks among the top five countries in the world for dinosaur finds, and the collection includes skeletons, fossilized skin, footprints, and eggs. To finish, you can stop at a cashmere store from one of Mongolia's leading brands or a souvenir shop, and in summer join an optional folk music concert of throat singing and shamanic ritual dance. We drop you back at your accommodation at around 19:00.
